Paris on a budget? Paris on a stomach? Why not both! The word “Paris” itself evokes many emotions revolving around gastronomy (a fancy word for food). Immersing myself in the French food culture has been incredible to say the least.  With cafes dotting every corner, it can be hard to decide where to dine. So from one foodie to the next, here’s the hot spots that you don’t want to miss out on during your next trip to Paris. 😉

Rue du Rosiers ($5-$10)

What to order? Falafel.

This is #1 on my list. If you’re not exactly sure what falafel is, it’s chickpea balls, vegetables, and a sauce wrapped in a pita pocket. Wikipedia can describe it better than I can. But I can guarentee that you will not be disappointed. Rue des Rosiers is filled with several places – my personal recommendation is “Mi-va-mi” located in the center of the street.

The Moose ($10-$20)

What to order: Virgin Mojito.

If you didn’t know already, I don’t drink alcohol! However I discovered the Moose; a Canadian bar which serves a superb virgin mojito. I’ve also heard they have amazing buffalo wings, but I have yet to try them. If you’re looking to catch a “real” football game or just want to wind down – this is the place!

Metro Stop: Odéon (lines 4 & 10)

Ari’s Bagels ($5-$10)*

What to order? Bagel.

Pictured above is “Ari’s bagel,” their classic. I wish I could have taken a better picture because this bagel was 10/10. *The prices differs only between vegetarian and non vegetarian.

Angelina’s ($20+)

What to order? Hot chocolate.

Quaint, gourmet, Parisian. What more could ask you for? Other than a discount.

Metro Stop: Tuileries (line 1) AND/OR Luxembourg (RER B) – there’s 2 locations.

Breizh Cafe ($10-$20)

What to order? Galette.

For what you get, it’s a tad overpriced. But, if you’re looking for a galette (salty crepe served with cheese, ham, mushrooms, etc) served on a platter, Breizh Cafe has it all. With a large selection of both galettes (dinner) and crepes (dessert), everyone should be able to find something they like. Also, sorry the lighting was terrible so my amateur photography skills are showing through.

Metro Stop: Saint-Sébastien – Froissart (line 8)

Paris Christmas Markets ($5-$10)

What to order? Raclette sandwich.

If you’re in Paris during the Christmas Market season, KUDOS TO YOU. They add such a charm to this already phenomenal city. The raclette sandwich uses a specific type of cheese that is heated and then scraped onto your sandwich in melted form. (See left side of picture)

Metro Stop: La Défense (line 1 & RER A) AND/OR Champs Elysées Clemenceau (lines 1 & 13) – multiples locations but these are the 2 that I recommend.

La Maison du chocolat ($20+)

What to order? macrons.

Now hear me out. Yes, the store’s name is “House of Chocolate” when translated into English but they also have delicious macrons that compete with world famous Ladurée.

Metro Stop: Ternes (line 2)

225 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, 75008 Paris, France

 

L’eclair de Genie ($5-$10)

What to order? Eclair.

This artisan bakery is known for one thing, and one thing only: eclairs! These gourmet goodies come in a diverse assortment so don’t be ashamed to pick out more than one! 😉

Metro Stop: Bourse (line 3) – they have 6 location but this is the one that I’ve been to.

32 rue Notre Dame des Victoires, 75002 Paris

 

Cafe Clochette ($10-$20)

What to order? Croque Monsieur.

This is about as French as you can get. The Croque Monsieur is as quintessential French cuisine as the baguette or crepe. Less than 5 minutes from the Canal Saint Martin, this sportsy cafe served me the best Croque Monsieur I’ve eaten to date.

Metro Stop: Jacques Bonsergent (line 5)
