Layover of the Month: Bozeman

Happy Belated Thanksgiving everyone!

I spent my Thanksgiving weekend in Paris, visiting my old host family. It was a great time, even if I had to be far from my family in Utah. Did any of you do something fun?

November in general kept me busy! I was only able to go home for one day, because I had a dentist appointment (woo!) and a yellow fever vaccine (woo!) appointment. My last trip finished on the 28th of the month, leaving me with a grand total of 21 flights worked, 10 cities flown through, 105 hours in the air and 5 different layovers! I had a lot of great trips this month, but one stood out in particular. I am happy to award this month’s Layover of the Month to Bozeman, Montana!

I’ll admit, I had really low expectations for Montana. I hadn’t heard anything special about it, and I didn’t bother to ask anyone before going. So when I was greeted by mountains, a historic downtown, store after store with unique merchandise, and a food scene that rivals any large town, I was thrilled! My adventure buddy for Bozeman was a friend of mine who I had flown with before! We brunched together at Jam!, spent our entire paycheck and then some shopping at Heyday, and I introduced her to kombucha (on tap!) at Townshend’s Teahouse!

Later on in the evening, I ventured out solo to get some dinner at Montana Ale Works. I ordered an a m a z i n g rueben sandwich with parmesan garlic fries. I typically order a rueben on my layover, it’s something I know VERY well and I can gauge the quality of the restaurant by its rueben.

When documenting my layover, I try including what I purchase. I did a similar “flat lay” for my Argentina trip. I think it’s fun to see what people find worth bringing back home with them. Similar to the rueben, I like to buy honey in different place (my cupboard currently has French, Montanan, and Argentinian honey). And I had to buy something with huckleberry as it is a local staple.

I canNOT wait to return to Bozeman. Hopefully in the spring so I can do some hiking! I’m sure some of you have been, what else am I missing out on? Because this town is a GEM and I want to know it inside and out!

Sending you all my best wishes from 30,000 feet,

– Paul
