My Skincare Routine

Flying and spending time abroad has varying effects on everyone’s health. I get questions all the time (from passengers and friends) about sleep, eating habits, and skincare. I generally tweak each of these based on where I’m going; and today I’m sharing exactly how I care for my skin while traveling. If you have a specific destination in mind, you can research additional tips online. In the meantime, here’s a great start from someone who travels for a career!

I’ve organized this article into 2 parts. Read my daily routine if you want the process (names of products shortened); or read by category if you’re just interested in knowing what products I use.

I know how hard it can be to find products depending on where you live, so I included links with as many through Amazon as possible. Enjoy!

~~~~~ Daily Routine in 5 Steps ~~~~~
Step 1, Shower
I shower every morning and after I come home from work. I wash using honey and sunflower gel from Nuxe. For my hair, I use Garnier products and rinse my hair in cold water.
Step 2, Face
I always pat my face dry and then spray thermal spring water to allow my skin to absorb moisture that isn’t from hard water. I use organic cotton swabs and my Caudalie toner. As that air dries, I use my comb to straighten my eyebrows and beard so my face feels framed correctly. I’ll also take this time to work on my eyebrows as needed.
Step 3, Hair
I towel-dry my hair until it’s just a little damp, then I use a Regis hair gel to style it! It keep my curls more defined and less frizzy.
Step 4, Shave
When shaving, I use a cream with aloe from Gillette. I also use their non-electric Mach3 razor with disposable / replaces razor heads. After I finish shaving, I spray a Lush toner on my neck. If it’s really irritated, I’ll lather aloe vera gel.
Side Note: I don’t like the feel of electric razors on my face, so I’ve always stuck to disposable razors. I do trim my body hair every 2-3 weeks, and for that I use a Wahl electric razor.
Step 5, Finishing Touches
I can skip this last step if I’m in a rush! If I need a light moisturizer, I love my Avene face lotion. If I’ll be out in the sun for a period of time, my go-to sunscreen is Vichy SPF 60. For the final finishing touch, I give myself a couple sprays of YSL cologne and I’m ready for the day!
~~~~~ Other Skincare Routines ~~~~~

If I’m having a “bad acne day,” or if I want extra clear skin for a special night, I do my Lierac “deep clean” routine. This is non-prescription, but I was recommended these products by a French pharmacist when I inquired about minimizing blackheads.
Rub dime-size amount of Mediceutics peel on slightly damp skin; let it sit for 5 minutes.
Rinse with water.
Apply Lierac toner with a round organic cotton pad.
Finish by rubbing quarter-size amount of Lierac Moisturizer on my face.

Before going somewhere festive (concert, wedding, clubbing, photoshoot, etc.) I use my Nuxe glitter-infused oil. This is the closest I come to using make up, as it does make my shine brighter. I typically use it to highlight my cheek bones (channeling my inner Rihanna haha).

At night, I rinse my face with warm water. My nighttime moisuritzer of choice is Embryolisse. This leaves a bit of a shine, which is why I only do it at night. I also apply a Caudalie eye balm under and around my eyes, and it’s a life saver before important days when I don’t want to look tired!
And last but not least, I rub some lavender oil on my wrists to help calm my nerve system and transition mentally to a relaxed state of mind.

Sending each of you my best from 30,000 feet,

    1. Haha! I’m glad we have similar taste! Flying with crews that are mostly women means I get the heads up on all the good stuff that I should be using 😉
